Carson Mintram is a familiar and trusted face at Lakeside Medicine Centre. After returning to Kelowna—the place he grew up—Carson was looking for a workplace where he could make a meaningful impact. Lakeside’s long-standing reputation for exceptional, patient-focused care made his decision an easy one.
I was looking for a change of scenery and decided to move back to Kelowna, where I grew up, to continue my professional life. Lakeside has a long-standing history of providing excellent care through an independently owned pharmacist model. The three owners—Chris, Graham, and Derek—really sealed my decision to work at Lakeside. Their professional accomplishments, along with the opportunity to learn from them, have been exceptional in helping me develop as a pharmacist.
I wish people involved us more in the decision-making process of their healthcare and understood how we can complement other healthcare providers. As many know, we’re able to prescribe for certain minor ailments, but we also try our best to offer solutions to the day-to-day healthcare issues people face. Moving toward shared responsibility in patient care—through collaboration with other providers—is something I hope continues to grow in B.C. It helps ensure we all share similar expectations for medication use and monitoring. We’re not here to replace anyone; we’re here to offer additional options when appropriate and support people through a shared decision-making approach.
On the golf course! I’m lucky enough to play at Tower Ranch during the golf season, and I love talking with others about their experiences and golf adventures. If I’m not out golfing, you’ll probably find me at the gym or walking our golden doodle puppy, Reginald, around the neighbourhood.
My favourite part about working in the Okanagan is the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with other healthcare providers. I’ve had great experiences connecting with others I interact with, and I truly believe in the value of direct communication—whether it’s a quick phone call or an in-person visit. Too often, healthcare becomes siloed, which doesn’t work well when open communication isn’t encouraged. I’m grateful to play even a small role in people’s care here in Kelowna, and I’m always happy to chat if my schedule allows!
